Many years ago, there was a gentleman that stated to me one time that members of the Libertarian Party should never dissent from the Libertarian Party platform. I have adhered to the platform as best as I can. However, when it comes to one issue, I followed my heart as well as my conscience. The issue is none other than abortion.

The Libertarian Party Platform takes the position that government should be kept out the question of abortion and leaving it up to individual women to decide. That is their right to do, provided a majority feel that way. However, in my view, it is a mistaken position. There is someone being left out of the abortion choice between individual women and doctors: the unborn child. To say that his or her life is dependent on whether or not he or she is wanted is abominable. If wanted he or she lives, if not, he or she is subjected aggression, violence and death against his or her person. This to me is not Libertarian. It is tyrannical.

I do hope that one day, in the future, that a majority of libertarians and a majority in the Libertarian Party, will see the fallacy of supporting abortion-rights. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out in defense of the unborn and hope for the day that their lives will be protected by law and by society as a whole. I hope that day comes soon.
