On August 15, the Democrats and Republicans Will Stack The Deck Yet Again
Tennent, NJ, August 8, 2016 – If there’s one thing Democrats and Republicans agree on, it’s that your only choice should be between Democrats and Republicans. They have used their control of the election laws to cement their many advantages in place. Taxpayers fund their closed primaries and subsidize their nominating conventions. Their candidates are automatically placed on the November ballot. Meanwhile, the Libertarian Party and its members fund their state and national nominating conventions. The Party must by law spend its own time and money to collect signatures on petitions to get its nominated candidates included on the November ballot.
Yet another of these deck-stacking practices will take place on Monday, August 15, in the Board of Elections offices of each NJ county. On that day, a lottery will be held to determine which parties and candidates get which columns on the November ballot. But like the rest of the election laws, the lottery is rigged. Since Column A and Column B are the prized spots on the ballot, only the Democrats and Republicans are allowed to compete for those two spots. The Libertarian Party, other parties, and Independent candidates are then put in a separate lottery for Columns C onward.
“No matter how much they stack the deck, voter dissatisfaction with the Democrats and Republicans is at an all time high,” says Jim Tosone, Vice Chair of the New Jersey Libertarian Party. “We urge all voters to send a message to the powers that be. Let them know you are wise to their unfair election practices. Vote for personal liberty, economic liberty, and fair election laws by voting for the Libertarian Party candidates at the Presidential, Congressional, County, and Local levels in November.”
The NJ Libertarian Party is NJ's third largest political party, founded in 1972. Our vision is for a world in which all individuals have the right to exercise sole control over their lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the rights of others to live as they choose. Our goal is to build a political party that elects Libertarians to public office and moves public policy in a libertarian direction.
