FLORHAM PARK, NJ – June 15, 2023 – The New Jersey Libertarian Party (NJLP) today announces that after persistent advocacy, the Florham Park Town Council will finally repeal a long-standing code, deemed unlawful since 1978.
NJLP’s advocacy has led Florham Park to recognize the inherent issues with the code. The Town Council's decision to repeal aligns the town with New Jersey state law, mitigating potential legal ramifications and fostering a more inclusive social environment.
"The New Jersey Legislature decided not to include such crimes in New Jersey's Criminal Code due to the potential misuse, and every New Jersey town should adhere to this decision. We sincerely appreciate Florham Park Town Council's decision to delete these outdated and unfair codes," said John Paff, Chair of the NJLP Preempted Ordinance Project. "The NJLP is determined to continue our mission town by town across New Jersey, challenging and working to repeal any antiquated or illegal codes regulating street behavior. Our ultimate goal is to ensure our laws are fair, just, and upholding the rights of the people and the fundamental values of individual liberty as set forth in our constitution."

NJLP Statement on the FBI’s Authoritarian Activities
New Jersey – August 10, 2022
On August 8, 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Many on the left, who previously spent years decrying law enforcement as corrupt and calling to defund the police, are celebrating this raid and denying the possibility of FBI corruption. Conversely, those on the right who have spent years curtailing civil liberties, bolstering law enforcement’s powers, and defending police as they terrorized communities, see this raid as political persecution.

NJLP Statement on Murphy’s Gun Control 3.0 Package
New Jersey – July 4, 2022:
In a state where respect for gun laws is akin to Nazi Germany, Governor Phil Murphy has even further violated and restricted your right to individual sovereignty. The latest “Gun Control Package 3.0” (because 1.0 and 2.0 did not work), is uncategorically the worst legislation in the country.

The NJ Libertarian Party Remains Committed to Protecting the Natural Right to Self Defense
New Jersey – May 23, 2022:
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, the lives of ten innocent people were senselessly taken and we join the nation in mourning this unimaginable loss. In the wake of this tragedy, we must remain committed to protecting the natural rights of citizens to own firearms to protect themselves and their loved ones. In New York and New Jersey alike, police departments have significant discretion in denying people carry permits. Since, as the Supreme Court has ruled, police officers have no duty to protect citizens, innocent people are often left without any means to protect themselves against violent individuals. No one else should have to die before the state stops violating citizens’ natural rights to self-preservation by repealing gun laws.

Home Intrusion/Data Collection Reaches New Heights in Hazlet, and it’s Not a Good Thing
Hazlet – April 22, 2022: The Hazlet Police Department has announced that the municipality has contracted with Appraisal Systems Inc. to inspect every home in the Township, inside and out, under the guise of property tax revaluations.
While such revaluations take place periodically under the law, the unprecedented nature of this level of intrusion goes in a dangerous new direction. It is a further deterioration of civil liberties which opens the door to so many possible rights violations. With no restrictions on what can be examined, residents are losing their privacy in the most complete way possible.

Ed Durr Advocates for Progressive Government Handout
New Jersey – March 24, 2022:
The Republican Party once again showed that they are merely speed-limit progressives. State Senator Ed Durr introduced the Gas Price and Inflation Tax Credit Act to give $500 to households making up to a quarter of a million dollars. This will cost taxpayers nearly $1.5 billion! Not even Democrats are calling for this ridiculous payment. Durr cites inflation and rising gas prices as his reason for expanding the welfare state. Of course, further increasing government spending will only fuel a worse inflationary crisis.

MERCER LP CALLS FOR CLEVELAND CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL TO TREAT TANNER DONALDSON
Mercer County, New Jersey-- Nine-year-old Tanner Donaldson is suffering from stage 5 chronic kidney disease. In 2018, Richardson was approved for a transplant. After four long years of searching, the family discovered that Tanner’s father, Dane Donaldson, is a match. The hospital denied the transplant because Tanner’s father isn’t vaccinated against COVID-19. This policy is nothing short of both cruel and indefensible.

NEW JERSEY – AUGUST 23, 2021: Whereas, it is the principled belief of the New Jersey Libertarian Party and many others that individual rights must not be denied, abridged, or enhanced by Government at the expense of other people’s rights, on any basis, including – but not limited to – sex, gender identity, wealth, race, color, creed, age, national origin, political preference, biological factors, or sexual orientation and,
Whereas, freedom and responsibility cannot be separated and exclusion of moral approval or disapproval is deliberate: peoples’ rights must be recognized; the wisdom of any course of peaceful action is a matter for the acting individual to decide,

March 28, 2018
During the 2016 presidential campaign, some libertarian-leaning voters wanted to give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt. As a candidate, Trump talked about drastic reductions in spending and taxation, along with “draining the swamp” of its career politicians. He said he wanted to reduce spending for defense of other countries and wars of foreign intervention. He even leaned toward allowing states to determine their own marijuana policies. Whatever libertarian impulses Trump the candidate seemed to have, though, his actual performance as president stands in stark contrast. Donald Trump is the opposite of a Libertarian.
During his campaign, Trump said he was “in favor of medical marijuana 100 percent,” and that recreational marijuana policy should be left to the states. On that issue, he sounded moderately libertarian. Once elected, Trump appointed Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general. Sessions promptly rescinded the Barack Obama–era Cole Memorandum, a directive from former Deputy Attorney General James Cole that had effectively prevented the federal government from initiating marijuana prosecutions in states that had legalized cannabis.

NJ Libertarian Party Fighting For Lower Property Taxes
Tennent, NJ, September 20, 2017 –
I love New Jersey. My family has lived here for four generations. Unfortunately, New Jersey has become a difficult place to live for anyone other than the extremely wealthy. It doesn’t have to be this way.
In my town the average homeowner will pay nearly $150,000 in property taxes over the next 10 years. This fact represents a serious failure of public policy. A community should be more than a school district where its graduates can’t even afford to live.

The New Jersey Libertarian Party opposes the proposal of a 23 cents per gallon increase in the gas tax. This tax hike could cost New Jersey motorists $4 Billion over the next 10 years. New Jersey spends $2 million per mile of road, the most in America and twice as much as the next highest state. The problem isn't revenue, it's spending. Let's abolish prevailing wage laws and stop using taxpayers as an ATM for special interest groups.

On August 15, the Democrats and Republicans Will Stack The Deck Yet Again
Tennent, NJ, August 8, 2016 – If there’s one thing Democrats and Republicans agree on, it’s that your only choice should be between Democrats and Republicans. They have used their control of the election laws to cement their many advantages in place. Taxpayers fund their closed primaries and subsidize their nominating conventions. Their candidates are automatically placed on the November ballot. Meanwhile, the Libertarian Party and its members fund their state and national nominating conventions. The Party must by law spend its own time and money to collect signatures on petitions to get its nominated candidates included on the November ballot.
